Position Summary:

Henkels & McCoy West is seeking a highly skilled and safety-focused Painter to support utility infrastructure projects and facility maintenance activities performed on Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) properties. The Painter will be responsible for surface preparation, coating application, corrosion control, and painting of utility facilities, substations, equipment, structures, and related assets in accordance with company, customer, and regulatory requirements.

 

This position requires a valid and active California C-33 Painting and Decorating Contractor License and a demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.

 

Responsibilities

  • Prepare surfaces for painting through cleaning, scraping, sanding, pressure washing, abrasive blasting, and other approved methods.
  • Apply primers, paints, coatings, sealants, and protective finishes to utility infrastructure, buildings, structural steel, equipment, tanks, fencing, and related assets.
  • Perform corrosion mitigation and maintenance painting on utility facilities.
  • Evaluate painted surfaces and determine appropriate preparation and coating requirements.
  • Mix and match paints and coatings according to manufacturer specifications and project requirements.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, pressure washers, spray systems, lifts, scaffolding, and other painting-related equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Read and interpret project specifications, work orders, safety plans, and coating application requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of materials used, work completed, and inspection results.
  • Ensure compliance with PG&E standards, environmental regulations, and Henkels & McCoy West quality requirements.
  • Inspect work areas for hazards and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Participate in safety meetings, job briefings, and mandatory training programs.
  • Travel to various job sites throughout the service territory as required.

 

Qualifications

  • Active California C-33 Painting and Decorating Contractor License in good standing.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 3 years of commercial, industrial, utility, or infrastructure painting experience.
  • Experience applying industrial coatings, protective coatings, and corrosion-resistant systems.
  • Knowledge of surface preparation methods and coating application techniques.
  • Ability to read and understand safety procedures, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to successfully pass company, client, and background screening requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all PG&E-required site access credentials.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working within utility, energy, substation, transmission, or industrial environments.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and safe work practices.
  • Experience operating aerial lifts, boom lifts, and scaffolding systems.
  • Lead-safe or hazardous materials handling experience.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, reach, bend, kneel, and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work at heights and from aerial lifts or scaffolding.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) for extended periods.

Hourly Range: $21.50/hr to 32.00/hr (will be dependent on experience)
