About the Role

The Regional Safety Manager (RSM) will lead the execution of regional safety goals and support corporate safety initiatives, playing a key role in HMW’s ongoing safety transformation. This position requires a proactive leader who can collaborate across departments and drive continuous improvement in safety performance.

Responsibilities

  • Implement HMW’s Safety, Health, and Environmental programs across the region.
  • Collaborate with corporate and regional leadership to ensure successful deployment of the Safety Transformation Plan.
  • Conduct regular site visits to assess safety program execution and transformation progress.
  • Monitor and analyze safety performance metrics; identify trends and recommend corrective actions.
  • Coach and advise management on occupational safety and health matters.
  • Review incident investigations to reduce risk and liability.
  • Lead and participate in Root Cause Analyses per HMW’s Incident Analysis Reporting process.
  • Supervise and develop regional safety staff, including performance reviews and professional growth.
  • Ensure alignment of safety efforts with operational goals and daily activities.
  • Represent HMW at OSHA citation hearings and support loss mitigation strategies.
  • Develop and deliver safety training programs tailored to field operations and emerging risks.
  • Coordinate emergency response planning and drills across regional sites.
  • Oversee the implementation and regular updating of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
  • Promote a culture of safety through employee engagement, recognition programs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for safety-related inquiries from clients, regulatory agencies, and internal stakeholders.
  • Manage safety documentation, including training records, inspections, incidents, and corrective actions.
  • Support subcontractor safety management, including prequalification, onboarding, and performance monitoring.
  • Participate in pre-construction and project kickoff meetings to address safety expectations and planning.
  • Evaluate and recommend new safety technologies, PPE, and tools to enhance field safety.
  • Foster proactive engagement with customers and regulatory agencies.
  • Support mental health and wellness initiatives as part of a holistic safety approach.

Qualifications

Experience

  • 8 to 10+ years of experience serving in a Safety Supervisor or Safety Manager capacity; with 3+ years of experience developing safety professionals
  • 8 to 10+ years of construction or related industry experience
  • Background supporting power, transmission, substation distribution project scope is highly preferred
  • Experience and knowledge with underground civil trenching is preferred
  • Versed with regulatory enforcement and contest procedures
  • DuPont Safety System knowledge preferred
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license required
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs., stand for extended periods of time, and be capable of extended work hours required
  • Experience in safety-related duties with understanding of OSHA standards required.
  • Possession of OSHA Instructor Outreach Trainer experience and be current in qualification preferred
  • Skills at user level with computer programs such as Word, Excel, and Power Point required
  • Must be willing to travel

Education

  • BS or MS degree in Construction Management, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or Environmental Sciences.
  • An engineering degree with relevant safety leadership experience will be considered
  • Active certifications with CUSP, CHST, and/or CSP
